David Cresswell had a long career that has involved BCIT from the very beginning. He was a student at BCIT between 1977 and 1979, where he got his Diploma in Computing. After that, he was part of several technological revolutions at the Institute. In 1983, he served as the Systems Analyst for the ISIS (Integrated Student Information System) initiative. He reported on the Computer Resources Strategic Plan Steering Committee in 1989—by which time he had also achieved a Master’s in Information Science. Seven years after the ISIS project, Cresswell served as a Student/Support Representative for the SIMS (Student Information Management System) Steering Committee in 1990. Seven years after that, he spearheaded the replacement of the previous BCIT email and scheduling system with Lotus Notes.
Cresswell also served as Interim CIO at BCIT from April 2017 to Feb 2018, and currently (2024) serves as VP Administration and Finance at Langara College.
