In 1986 the Connection continued the Messenger and absorbed PVI Perspectives following the merger of BCIT and the Pacific Vocational Institute.
1986 saw the Connection become a monthly magazine concentrating on academic and advancement endeavors of the Institute. By 1987 the newsletter became a quarterly that ceased publication in the summer of 1989; In October 1986 the first issue of Update was published. The publication was "designed to keep staff up to date in institute news." The publication continues to be published as a website and blog. The Update blog began in 2004 with a couple of entries and became regular publication by 2008. Around this time the goals of the publication shifted to be more outward-facing rather than a publication intended mostly for BCIT staff.
